#SLCCPractitioners – the aftermath

A week on from the #SLCCPractitioners Conference at the Chesford Grange Hotel in Kenilworth, Warwickshire, and here at CloudyGroup HQ in Buckingham the dust is beginning to settle! Martyn, our Creative Director and leader of the CloudyCreative team, and I were blown away by how welcoming and friendly all the delegates and conference leaders were.

Over the whole two-day conference we met over one hundred of the 185 local council clerk delegates who attended. Not surprisingly, almost everyone was keen to talk to us about GDPR and its ramifications. There seemed to be lots of concerns about migrating IT systems to the cloud and how this would impact compliance – hopefully our expertise in this area helped to assuage some of the delegates’ fears in this area, and we’re really hopeful and optimistic about working with more councils in this area of IT in the near future.

We were glad to be able to take this invaluable face-to-face opportunity with the SLCC organisers to get a few more dates in the diary at other SLCC events this year; as well as the National conference which will take place in Lincolnshire in October, we’re also hoping to attend an event in the summer too. There are some really exciting opportunities including an event organised by SLCC leadership students at the National Space Centre near Leicester.

The highlight of the conference for us was almost certainly the Networking Dinner hosted by the SLCC and sponsored by Came and Company Local Council Insurance. As well as enjoying a delicious dinner (roast beef for Martyn, veggie curry for me!) and meeting lots of delightful council clerks who were happy to talk to us all about their industry and the challenges they’re facing in today’s climate, we enjoyed some fantastic entertainment including a close-up magician and a disco. And thankfully, despite my reservations, Martyn behaved himself … mostly!
